Inner Dance

Inner Dance is a powerful tool of self-discovery discovered by Pi Villaraza after having spent two years fasting on a remote island in the Philippines. Pi tapped into his own spiritual essence and then found that he was able to “transmit” this same understanding through the use of music and light touch.

The name “Inner Dance can initially be misleading – many people have strong reactions to the word “dance” – either loving it or hating it, and yet inner dance is unlike any type of conventional dance. The emphasis is definitely on the Inner part as many people experiencing Inner Dance will lay on the floor in relative outer stillness whilst their inner journey can be incredibly intense.

At its heart Inner Dance is a vehicle for a voyage into the deepest levels of the self- journeying past the known and accessing parts of us all that contain our deepest wisdom, love and connection. In short, it is a profound awakening to our spirit and our soul.

What does a session of Inner Dance consist of?

Participants will lie on the floor and music will be played. The music is designed to take the participants through a very specific sequence which mimics the varying brainwaves that we all experience during sleep. Sometimes the music is soft and gentle, and other times it is discordant and loud – all designed to provoke an inner landscape.

At times the facilitator will come round and provide an additional support for going deeper – this may be a gentle touch on the body, or it may be the addition of musical sounds or smells near the body.

Some people do feel the urge to stand up and move their body – but this movement is not “dance” in the conventional sense but more like an urge to express what is being felt inside. Other people may lie in relative stillness and yet be experiencing the most profound travels in their mind.

Once the time period is over the participants are given time to just rest and process whatever it was they just experienced. The group then comes together to share how they are and how their process went.
