Workshops & Retreats

Samina Khan as workshop facilitator at the NL Retreat 2018

I am a huge advocate of the increased power of learning that can happen within a group environment- especially when the learning is experiential in nature.

A simple way to understand experiential learning is the difference between learning how to swim by reading a book versus getting into the pool and splashing around- the getting into the pool is the experiential version; essentially experiential learning includes the whole body within the experience.

The workshops and retreats I facilitate can be divided into two main areas.

  1. Our relationship with others. This includes effective communication and conflict resolution using the principles of Non-Violent Communication (NVC); boundaries.

  2. Our relationship with ourselves. This includes areas such as self-compassion, shame and our shadow selves.

I love to use a multi-modal approach by incorporating a full Mind/Body/Spirit approach.

Mind: Talking, listening, learning.

Body: Dancing, moving, sensing and feeling

Spirit: Deep inner exploration and voyaging.

I met Samina during my stay at Hope Rehab where I came to treat long-term heroin addiction. She was responsible for delivering workshops for the whole community which during my time was around 25 people. I found Samina’s workshops very engaging and interactive where we all got very involved and learnt through doing not just listening. I was impressed with how Samina was able to hold the space and keep everyones’ attention even in the midst of difficult detoxes and strong personalties. I enjoyed the fact that Samina’s approach was holistic yet no nonsense- she brought ideas and insights that others may have missed. I still to this day use some of the material that I learnt including the Non violent communication and Shadow work. I’d thoroughly recommend Samina as a skilled facilitator and as therapist.

I loved attending workshops facilitated by Samina as she has the ability to present topics in a way that provides for everyone’s learning style. In the workshops I was gently encouraged to participate in role plays, way outside my comfort zone, but because I felt safe with Samina I was able to do it and my self confidence grew. Finally, the support did not stop with the one to one therapy and workshops. Samina has continued to encourage and support me following the completion of my program and that has helped me to continue on my healing journey. I cannot thank Samina enough for the changes she has helped me make in my life!

I was lucky to attend many of Samina’s workshops which covered a range of emotional topics from vulnerability to shame and also forgiveness. I can honestly say that her workshops, combined with our other sessions, helped to create a positive and significant shift in my emotional intelligence. It opened me up to more love and self compassion and Samina’s insight continues to influence me today.

Samina’s dancing workshops were fabulous and the women’s circles were always welcoming and I built deep respect and trust for Samin and the work that she does.

I have also observed Samina as a group therapist and a workshop facilitator and learned from her. She shows leadership and is very caring about her clients and shows so much empathy that clients always feel heard in a group.

I first met Samina in Thailand where I was attending a retreat. All was good at the facility and when Samina arrived things got even better.   Her mastery of creating interesting workshops and discussion groups as well as her ability to hold a safe place for participants is extraordinary.   Samina is gifted with insight and talent, her expertise and finesse to create powerful workshops to bring out the best in people is amazing.

I am a professional adult educator in the Arts. I have participated in more than ten of Samina’s workshops and have consistently found her to use evidence based practice, creativity and passion to involve and impact all types of learners (visual, auditory and kinesthetic). The results have been stellar.

I especially enjoyed the dance workshops I’ve done with Samina – participating in her DANCEmandala has been very magical and freeing.
